COT:
Situational awareness will save you from most instances where self defense would be needed. Be aware of what's going on around you and pay attention to the 'gut feelings'. Practice all the time with someone you trust so that your body will remember what to do even when your brain freezes up. Remember, the goal is maximum damage with minimal effort. Don't forget to implement the small things (tiny pinches, etc.) and utilize vital points.
'A fighter is training for a purpose: He [she] has a fight. I'm a martial artist. I don't train to fight. I train for myself.' -GSP
Don't train for others. It's always you against you. Train against the you that you were yesterday.
